The Journey to Jerusalem
Luke 9:21 v.23

Jesus said, "If anyone wants to follow in My footsteps he must give up all right to himself , carry his cross and keep close behind Me." (Phillips)

v.23. "The mission of Jesus as the suffering Son of Man involves the participation in His self-sacrifice by all who follow Him. G.W.Lampe" in Peake's Commentary on Luke.

My path was alone and lonely and many there were who tried to deflect Me. Those who take up their cross and follow Me will find pain and suffering, sometimes a feeling of dereliction. Remember My cry from the Cross which expressed this experience: those who commit themselves to the Father's will in and through My love must experience this too in some measure for their soul's sake and for the sake of the Kingdom.

Awareness of My Indwelling Presence will obviate any contagion of despair or defeat. Be of good courage for I have overcome the world.
