His teaching made a deep impression on them because He spoke with authority"
Luke 4:36

All down the ages those who have even superficially examined the life and the teaching of the Son of Man have noted that "He spoke with authority". But why do not more children of the Father examine and consider more closely with whose authority he spoke ?

If they conclude that the authority must be divine because of its effect upon the lives of those who committed themselves to it and because of its intrinsic reality, why do they not look more carefully , with more humility and wonder, and steadfastness at the content of the teaching and the orientation of the life?

For the way is increasingly clear for the single-minded and the true of heart - more clear and more demanding and challenging as it is followed. But no-one who has set out in sincerity and self-giving has ever been confused or failed to find their way, rough and painful though it may often be . Which of them would have it otherwise when the Son of Man, who carries the authority of the Father, not only trod that way in time but continually bears up those in the way.
