"Lord open the eyes of these men that they may see."

2 Kings 6:20

Blindness is a setback for all who are afflicted with it ; but every child of the Father who encounters blindness is showered with potential blessings and challenged by opportunity with countless openings for growth and service.

Far more pernicious to the human soul is blindness of the mind and heart - a state which can fall on anyone through contrary circumstance and a negative response to it, by persistent sin and - most dangerous of all - by rationalising the sinful circumstance or condition or orientation. Yet the light is always present: all that is necessary for sight and progress is an opening of the eyes . Painful will be the condition at first but pain will give place to joy as the darkness and blindness are dispelled.

Most pernicious of all is the condition of all those who having seen the light, having looked at the illumined path, voluntarily withdraw their gaze and nullify their understanding. Growth of the real self is inevitably stunted in this situation, the way forward becomes unclear, uncertain. And there are falls, straying from the appointed path , failing those who need help and support, and - of course - no progress made towards fulfilment and maturity.

Pray constantly that the Father's children the world over react increasingly to the light perpetually around them and be challenged into obedience - joyful obedience - to that which they will increasingly see before them. Let the light be shared and joyfully rejoiced in.
